Eight Doors of Jannah - Gateway to Heaven in Islam

Eight Gates of Jannah
In the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) describes Jannah as having eight doors!

In the Islamic tradition, Jannah (paradise or heaven) is described as an eternal place of everlasting peace and bliss for the believers. In the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) describes Jannah as having eight doors or gates, the names of which are associated with righteous deeds.

"And those who feared their Lord will be led to the Garden in crowds: until behold, they arrive there; its gates will be opened; and its keepers will say: 'Peace be upon you! You have done well! Enter here, to dwell therein.” ~ Surah Az-Zumar 39:73

Jannah is described as an eternal place of everlasting peace!

Baab As-Salaat – The Door of Prayer
Muslims who are regular in their prayers and offer Namaz (Salah) will be granted entry through this door. Allah (SWT) promised great rewards for those who pray with sincerity and Baab As-Salaat will be the fulfillment of that promise.

Baab Al-Jihad - The Door of Striving in the cause of Allah (SWT)
Those who have sacrificed their lives in the way of Islam through Jihad will be granted entry through this gate. However, note that the Holy Quran has always encouraged Muslims to resolve issues through peaceful dialogue and engage in battle only in self-defense when no other option is left. "Let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression." ~ Surah Al-Baqarah 2:193

There are extremists who misguide and incite youth to kill innocents and promise them Jannah in the afterlife. Don’t mistake this as a means to enter Jannah. Jihad means to struggle or strive in the way of Allah (SWT). Jihad is also the battle for a better self.

Baab As-Sadaqah - The Door of Charity
This gate allows entry to those believers who voluntarily give charity (Sadaqah), apart from Zakat (the obligatory charity - 2.5% of your wealth every year) in the way of Allah (SWT) whether to old parents, orphans, poor or travelers in need.

“Those who spend their wealth [in Allah's way] by night and day, secretly and publicly - they will have their reward with their Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.” ~ Surah Al-Baqarah 2:274

Baab Ar-Rayyan - The Door of Fasting
Muslims who observe fast (Sawm) with sincerity and abstain from food and drink especially during the Holy month of Ramzan and do it voluntarily will be admitted into Jannah through Baab Ar-Rayyan.

Sahl ibn Sa’d (RA) reported: The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, “Verily, there is a gate in Paradise called Al-Rayyan, through which only those who fasted will enter on the Day of Resurrection and no one but they will enter it.” ~ Sahih al-Bukhari 1797, Ṣahih Muslim 1152

Baab Al-Hajj
The annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca during Dhul-Hijjah is an obligation that every able Muslim has to undertake at least once in a lifetime. Those who perform the Hajj pilgrimage (one of the five pillars of Islam) will be admitted through this door.

Baab Al-Kaazimeen Al-Ghaiz Wal Aafina Anin Naas
There is a special gate in Jannah for Muslims who restrain their anger and practice forgiveness towards their brethren.

Baab Al-Iman - The Door of Iman (Tawakkul - Reliance on Allah (SWT) alone)
Baab Al-Iman is reserved for those who are steadfast in their faith in Allah (SWT) and live a life following Allah's (SWT) teachings.

Baab Al-Dhikr
Baab Al-Dhikr is for believers who spend their lives in remembrance of Allah (SWT) (Dhikr) and focussing on Islamic teachings.

“Gardens of perpetual residence; they will enter them with whoever were righteous among their fathers, their spouses, and their descendants. And the angels will enter upon them from every gate, [saying], “Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured. And excellent is the final home.” ~ Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:23-24
